Why Ogun L.G Chairmen Are On Edge After Getting 1st Monthly N15m From Abiodun

Council chairmen in Ogun state have received the first of a fifteen million Naira (N15m) monthly stipend, pledged by Governor Dapo Abiodun.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that each of the chairmen of all the twenty (20) local governments in the state got paid a couple of days back.

Information revealed that though the fifteen million Naira is a considerable upgrade from the monthly three million naira each they used to get, the council chairmen are on edge.

“Many of them are not at ease with the new arrangement because of how it came to be” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

“Insiders revealed that as part of galvanizing support for his second term ambition as well as a good showing by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 general election in Ogun state, Governor Abiodun held a meeting with the council chairmen and other stakeholders in their local government areas including leaders of market women and other trade associations. 

“It was at that meeting that there were expressions of open disenchantment with the Governor about what is happening at the council areas. There were assertions that the councils that should be driving development that will make getting grassroots support easier appear incapacitated. There were expressions of anger and disappointment and many of the chairmen reportedly fueled the outpour of grievances. The Governor decided to increase the monthly stipends of the chairmen from three million naira to fifteen million naira to empower them to give the councils the spark to achieve desired aims” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

Those who should know disclosed that the actions that resulted in jacking up the chairmen’s monthly stipend were later interpreted as “arm-twisting” the Governor using the upcoming election.

The interpretation has created a bit of uncertainty about how long the payment will last after the election as well as what becomes the fate of the chairmen that actively participated in edging on those that spoke against how the governor is running the state at the meeting,
