Insiders say the 59-year-old deputy governor is now enjoying a push from a “powerful quarter” that could tilt the balance when the battle for Governor Dapo Abiodun’s successor heats up.

Known as one of Abiodun’s most loyal allies, Salako-Oyedele has served faithfully since 2019 and is now on her second term. Though she has never openly declared any interest, the talks refuse to die down. Instead, they are gathering steam by the day.

Within the APC, the deputy governor is quietly being packaged as the “alternative candidate.”

“The word is that the APC race will be brutal, but she’s being positioned to reap the spoils,” a party insider revealed.

Unlike the loud and flashy campaigns of others, her backers have run a subtle, steady operation. Now, with her name repeatedly surfacing in succession talks, it is becoming clear: more people are beginning to take her ambition seriously.

The main obstacle? Senator Solomon Adeola, better known as Yayi, who many see as the frontrunner. His campaign network has been in motion since 2015, and he has built strong grassroots support across Ogun West—Salako-Oyedele’s own base.

But she is not alone in that space. Heavyweights like Gboyega Nasir Isiaka (GNI) are also angling for the ticket, while names like former Speaker Dimeji Bankole and ex-minister Sarafa Isola hover around from Ogun Central.

For now, Yayi still leads the pack. But as a loyal deputy governor with a strong political family connection through her husband Bode Oyedele, and whispers of powerful backing, Salako-Oyedele’s name is one that players Ogun politics no longer ignore.
