Ismaila Mustapha the subject of interest of the anti-corruption agency, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has threatened the agency with a lawsuit.

Mustapha better known as Mompha is insisting that the EFCC defamed him demands a withdrawal of the offensive statement as well a public apology.

The EFCC linked Mompha to the prosecution conviction of a fraudster who turned state witness for reduced sentence Hamza Koudeih (HK).

The EFCC named Koudeh and another defendant Kayode Phillips as well as Mompha as high-valued targets in Organised Cyber Syndicate Network who engaged in various cyber crimes.

Mompha, however, disputed the claims contained in a statement issued by EFCC spokesperson Wilson Uwujaren.

In a statement signed by his lawyer Gboyega Oyewole, the alleged fraudster declared that “It is embarrassing that an organisation of EFCC’s level would hastily defame a suspect, who to their knowledge is being prosecuted by the organisation and has not been convicted of any crime known to law in Nigeria.

“We wish to request that the organisation through its image maker Wilson Uwajaren retract the blanket statement against our client forthwith and with the same publicity as was given to his previous press release on the matter.

“If you fail to heed the request of our client within 14 days of the receipt of this letter, we shall be constrained to proceed to the court of law against your organisation for exemplary damages for injurious falsehood”,
