Those who passionately care about the ongoing campaign of Lagos Senator, Solomon Olamilekan – popularly known as Yayi – to transform into the Governor of Ogun in the year 2019 made a plea to him not too long ago.

“Beg governor Amosun , reach an understanding with him that would enable you to secure his support and the state APC structure to achieve your ambition” they proposed.

But Yayi was Aghast.

“That would be disloyalty!” he exclaimed and stated categorically “I can’t do that to Asiwaju”.

Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the “national leader” of the All Progressives Congress and former governor of Lagos state is the reported chief backer of the gubernatorial ambition of Senator Adeola.

The Lagos Senator came to political reckoning riding on the influence of the “Asiwaju”.

Interestingly, Asiwaju and the outgoing Governor of Ogun state, Ibikunle Amosun – though in the same party- are at odds politically.

The “odds” between them is labeled very intense as they struggle to be more relevant than one another both at regional and national level.

It didn’t help matter that at the time Tinubu was “cut to size” at the national level, Amosun’s influence in the Presidency blossomed.

“That Yayi, a well-known protégé of Asiwaju arrived Amosun state and started campaigning to take over the number one position only fueled the differences” a source pointed out.

The spiraled effects of these developments reportedly resulted in Amosun’s famous statement, that though he does not know who would become the next governor of Ogun state – he knows those who would not.

And fearing for the gubernatorial ambition of their “person”, those who really care about Yayi’s aspiration approached him to “make peace by pleading with Amosun to forgive and forget” but the Lagos Senator issued an emphatically “NO!”.

And in a related development, Yayi at a traditional event held over the weekend in Ilaro insists he intends to stay in APC to achieve his ambition of becoming the next governor of the state.

He declared that the reports of seeking an alternative political party “incorrect”.
