Femi Otedola made a bold call recently.

The money man called out wealthier Mike Adenuga to fulfill a N1billion pledge to the Nigeria Private Sector Coalition Against Covid-19.

Otedola did not directly call out Adenuga, he simply put up a post by the Central Bank of Nigeria signed by spokesperson Isaac Okoroafor detailing the names of those who are yet to fulfill their donation – and Adenuga’s name topped the list of four that include, Lafarge, MTN and John Coumatatous (Flour Mills).

Adenuga has subsequently fulfilled the pledge.

Opinions are, however, divided over the action taken by Otedola.

The opinions posit his action as right on one side and wrong on the other.

And here are the summations.

Those who believe Otedola is wrong insist that the action belittles his status because he has access to Adenuga and all he needed to do was to put a call through to the chairman of Globacom. Those who hold this opinion believe Otedola simply took advantage of the situation to score a cheap point against Adenuga by putting the richer man’s integrity and hard-earned reputation on the line for reasons yet to be “established”.

Those who align with Otedola stand firm that he should be applauded for taking on Adenuga and others on the list. They believe a pledge is a moral debt that should be pressured to be fulfilled, especially in dire situations like the fight against Covid-19.

Supporters of Otedola”s action are of the opinion it shows his serious commitment to the fight against the global threat- publicly taking on a major player in the nation”s socioeconomic space like Adenuga.

” Obviously, there is more than meets the eyes going on between the two of them…Otedola obviously forced the issue ” a source pointed out.
