Eyitayo Jegede rebuffed intense pressure to become a People’s Democratic Party Senatorial candidate in Ondo state societynow.ng learned.

And checks by societynow.ng have revealed the real reason behind this position.

Sources confirmed Jegede still wants to become the Governor of Ondo state.

“And his position is, it’s either the gubernatorial slot or nothing else” societynow.ng learned.

Jegede contested against incumbent Governor Rotimi Akeredolu as the candidate of the People’s Democratic Party.

But he lost out to Akeredolu and the ruling All Progressives Congress in the face of massive allegations of sell-out against former governor Olusegun Mimiko.

Mimiko – who was the outgoing governor –  was the power behind Jegede’s gubernatorial ambition.

After the defeat, Mimiko defected from the PDP and returned to the Labour party.

Jegede remained in the PDP and is now identified as the inheritor of the political structure abandoned by Mimiko.

“Jedege is leveraging on the advantage in preparation to have another go at his gubernatorial ambition” societynow.ng learned.

Insiders disclosed Governor Akeredolu is gearing up to seek re-election and Jegede wants to take over the seat from him.

“That is why Jegede refused the pressure first have a go at becoming a Senator and if he wins, use the position to vie for the governorship post. He insisted he wants to be known for his gubernatorial ambition and that is the singular position he wants to amass support for and that is what he is doing” societynow.ng learned.

Insiders disclosed Ayo Akinyelure has secured the PDP Senatorial ticket in Ondo state while Jegede decided to concentrate on his gubernatorial ambition.
