Adewunmi Onanuga, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Federal House of Representatives, has been laid to rest.

The representative of Ikenne/Sagamu/Remo North Federal Constituency, fondly known as Ijaya, was buried on Friday, January 24, 2025.

Her burial came just a week after her demise on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, despite her being a Muslim—a faith that emphasizes prompt burial.

This is where Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun has earned widespread praise.

Sources revealed that Onanuga passed away in London while undergoing treatment for an undisclosed ailment. Faced with the sensitive task of returning her remains for a timely burial, Governor Abiodun reportedly went above and beyond to ensure everything was handled smoothly.

Reports indicate that the governor even made a quick trip abroad to personally address bureaucratic hurdles that could have delayed the repatriation of her body.

According to Islamic teachings, a deceased individual should ideally be buried before sundown if they pass away earlier in the day or by early morning the following day if death occurs in the evening.

“Onanuga’s case was one of the rare exceptions where fulfilling Islamic burial rites faced potential delays,” a source explained. “Governor Abiodun spared no effort to ensure her burial wasn’t postponed unnecessarily, and he is receiving commendations for his swift actions.”

Onanuga, a staunch loyalist of Governor Abiodun during her lifetime, had evidently earned his respect and gratitude. His pivotal role in her burial arrangements demonstrated that her loyalty was deeply valued and not taken for granted.
