Why Amosun’s Adopted Party Has Candidate Against Daniel Despite “Deal”

Unlike in Ogun Central Senatorial district where the political structure of Senator Ibikunle Amosun is backing the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Olumide Aderinokun SocietyNow.Ng gathered that it is fielding a candidate in Ogun East senatorial district.

Senator Amosun, a former Governor of Ogun state and his men have been sidelined in the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) by Governor Abiodun in a winner takes all supremacy tussle.

The former Governor has adopted the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for his loyalists to contest the 2023 election in Ogun State.

Amosun remains in the APC but is openly backing Biyi Otegbeye the gubernatorial candidate of the ADC as the next Governor of Ogun State.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that Amosun has struck deals with key political players seeking sectional winnings across parties at odds with second-term-seeking Governor Abiodun.

“The deal is for such political players to back Otegbeye in exchange for the support of Amosun’s political structure and some other things” SocietyNow.Ng learned.

Gbenga Daniel, a former Governor of Ogun state and the candidate of the APC in the Ogun East Senatorial contest is said to fall into this category. Abiodun and Daniel are allegedly embroiled in a cold war that has seen them snub the campaigns of each other.

“The talk about town is that Daniel and Amosun are working together to produce the next Governor of Ogun state” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

The checks by SocietyNow.Ng, however, revealed that Amosun’s adopted political party ADC is fielding a candidate against Daniel despite the talks of “working together”.

“What happened is beyond the control of Amosun, the ADC had done its primaries and submitted the names of candidates to INEC (Independent Electoral Commission) before SIA (Senator Ibikunle Amosun) and his people adopted the party. The Ogun East Senatorial candidate issue was one of the things that couldn’t be resolved before the final by INEC” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

Added information available to SocietyNow.Ng revealed that the situation has been “worked on” and Daniel made to see “reasons” that what happened was not in bad faith.
