Why Amosun Is Back As No.1 Topic In Ogun Politics

Former Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, is once again dominating political conversations in the state.

His reemergence followed his surprise appearance at the 90th birthday of Mrs. Victoria Olaitan Abiodun, mother of Governor Dapo Abiodun, held on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, in Iperu, the Governor’s hometown.

Now said to be enjoying a growing profile in the Presidency, Amosun attended the event despite his long-standing rift with Abiodun.

Witnesses noted he kept his distance, refusing undue familiarity with his successor even while celebrating the matriarch – taking time to chat with her while the Governor stood by.

“It took efforts by the Governor for them to exchange even a half-hearted handshake,” an eyewitness revealed.

A video of the brief exchange has since gone viral across Ogun State, attracting mixed reactions and fueling renewed interest in their frosty relationship.

Once close allies, Amosun and Abiodun fell out before the 2019 election over yet to be disclosed reasons.

Amosun, then outgoing governor, refused to support Abiodun’s bid to succeed him and reportedly worked against his re-election in 2023.

Despite belonging to the same party, both men have remained on opposing sides — rarely seen together until the symbolic encounter at Mama Abiodun’s 90th birthday celebration.
