Former Governor of Ogun State, Ibikunle Amosun, is back on the lips of many, especially in the political circle.

The immediate past senator from Ogun Central is making a return on the wings of his rapport with former President Muhammadu Buhari.

Amosun, last week, led a team of associates to Buhari’s home in Daura, Katsina, to celebrate the ex-President’s birthday.

Checks revealed that the development, which attracted widespread attention courtesy of a video of the private celebration that found its way into the public space, is not a one-off occurrence for Amosun.

Those in the know disclosed that he has unceasingly celebrated Buhari’s birthday every year for more than fifteen years—before, during, and after the latter left office as President—without fail.

The talks linking this character trait to happenings in Ogun State suggest it is the same intense dedication Amosun is silently devoting to ensuring he has a say in who becomes the next Governor of Ogun State.

Amosun already has a partner in another heavyweight politician, Senator Gbenga Daniel, in achieving this feat.

They are jointly up against outgoing Governor Dapo Abiodun, who is seeking to become the first to install a preferred successor.

Daniel—also a former two-term governor of Ogun State—Amosun, and Abiodun are members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), where Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, famously known as Yayi, is the leading gubernatorial aspirant for the 2027 election.
