Why Abiodun’s Top Men, Talabi & Okubadejo, Are On Many Lips

Tokunbo Talabi and Dapo Okubadejo, two top figures in the Ogun State government, are currently on many lips.

The two closest associates of Governor Dapo Abiodun are being discussed in relation to the 2027 general election. They are being touted as possible deputy governor candidates in a potential deal that would see Abiodun back leading gubernatorial aspirant Solomon Olamilekan Adeola as his successor.

Adeola, more famously known as Yayi, is the Senator representing Ogun West. He is engulfed in a whirlwind of activities that have transformed him into the strongest hope for the people of his region—Yewa—to produce a governor since the creation of Ogun State in 1976.

Talks of a rift with Governor Abiodun—whom he helped to power in 2019 and a second term in 2023—had taken a bit of shine off his political standing.

“But it appears rough edges are being smoothed, and things are back on track. The emergence of Abiodun’s close allies as likely deputy governor candidates is believed to be a product of ongoing discussions,” according to claims making the rounds.

Checks revealed that discussions about the likelihood of either Okubadejo or Talabi becoming Yayi’s deputy governorship candidate are more popular among the senator’s supporters.

Okubadejo is the Ogun State Commissioner for Finance, while Talabi—often labeled the brainbox of the Abiodun administration—is the Secretary to the State Government.
