Unraveling Behind The Scene In Lagos Drivers & Agberos Face-Off

Behind the seeming truce between commercial drivers and transport union agents informally known as Agberos is an uneasy calm.

“Things have gone very person and people are been visited at their homes at night. Many of those involved, particularly the arrowheads on both sides don’t sleep at home for now” according to the information available.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that this move is part of behind-the-scene efforts to assert dominance by the parties involved.

The commercial drivers operating the popular “Yellow buses” downed tools last week in protest over hiked charges by the Lagos state parks management committee with MC Oluomo (Musiliu Akinsanya) ad chairman.

The hiked charges touted as about N13,000 (thirteen thousand Nair) daily are shared revenue between the Lagos state government and the Parks Management committee SocietyNow.Ng learned.

The protests resulted in violent clashes between the Drivers and Agberos in parts of Lagos, including Alagbado where transport unionist Istijaba (Abdul Azeez Abiola) held sway.

A meeting spearheaded by MC Oluomo where agreements to put the matter to bed was held last week. Majorly, the Park Management Committee insisted on the new charges but agreed there would be no payment on weekends.

SocietyNow.Ng’s checks revealed that the unraveling behind the scene is not a novel thing.

“That is the way it has always been, one of the beyond the normal steps to settle open disputes, to make people behave in a particular way when things appear to be getting out of control” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.
