Emerging details have it that Ibikunle Baruwa the National President of the Road Transport Union (NURTW) has put his campaign to become king on hold.

“He has halted the spending he was using to endear himself to the decision makers and the locals” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

Baruwa who has erected what is described as a “worthy palace” in Balogun/ Mosa Onjuwon area of Ota in Ogun West wants to be the first king of the axis.

He embarked on extensive and capital-intensive developmental projects such as the construction of markets, police station, road and electrification projects, and widespread charity initiatives to shore up his chances over the years.

“But he has slowed down, if not totally stopped in recent time” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

This is in the face of the tremendous loss of revenue suffered by the NURTW in the southwest under his watch.

Lagos state, the cash cow of the transport union body pulled out in March 2022 and adopted the park management system in the thick of a heated supremacy fight between state chairman Musiliu Akinsanya (known on the street as MC Oluomo) and Baruwa.

This followed the loss of revenues in other states like Oyo, Osun, and Ogun which also adopted the park management system.

Just like in the case of Oluomo in Lagos, the park management services system in other states it operates locks out the NURTW from the transportation businesses – revenue and all – and puts those at odds with Baruwa in charge.

“This is a very huge revenue dent for NURTW and Baruwa. It means the association and its president operate on a massively reduced budget” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

Information here and there attribute this development to the halt in the spending of the transport union boss’ bid to become king.
