Emerging details have it that prominent traditional rulers in the political base of former Governor Ibikunle Amosun have thrown their weight behind the re-election ambition of Governor Dapo Abiodun.

Though members of the same political party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), Amosun is against Abiodun’s bid to secure a second term in office.

The immediate past Governor is openly supporting Biyi Otegbeye, the candidate of the African Democratic Congres (ADC) in the 2023 gubernatorial election in Ogun state.

But it appears traditional rulers in Amosun’s stronghold in Ogun Central do not share the same enthusiasm as the Senator representing the area for Otegbeye.

The former Governor is the Senator representing Ogun Central.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that 54 traditional rulers in the senatorial district regarded as Amosun’s power base have backed the re-election of Abiodun, the gubernatorial candidate of the APC for the 2023 election.

The list includes prominent kings such as the Alake of Egbaland – Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, the Osile Oke-Ona Egba Oba Adedapo Tejuosho, Agura of Gbagura -Oba Sobur Bakre and the Olowu of Owu – Oba Saka Matemilola who oversees Amosun’s immediate locality.

The 54 traditional rulers endorsed Abiodun for a second term under the banner of Egba Traditional Council according to a statement released by the Governor’s aide.

A statement announcing the development monitored by SocietyNow.Ng on the social media aide of Emmanuel Ojo, a media aide quoted the traditional rulers as attributing their support to the developmental strides of the Abiodun administration.

The traditional rulers with Alake, Osile, Agira and Olowu at the forefront reportedly “expressed confidence that the governor would perform better if given another opportunity.”

“The governor has done very very well. In the last 16 years, two governors have done second terms, why is our governor who has done so well will not do a second term?” the Alake was quoted.

Otegbeye

Former Governor Amosun is backing Otegbeye, a former member of the APC, as part of an unceasing political fight with Abiodun that predates the latter’s election for his first term in office in 2019.

Amosun adopted ADC for his loyalists to contest the 2023 election after he got sidelined along with his loyalists by Abiodun in a winner-takes-all move over control of the APC in Ogun state.
