Ambition of oil businessman cum politician, Tonye Cole to become governor of Rivers State appears to have run into trouble.

Report monitored on punchng.com revealed one of the vehicles in the convoy of Cole on Friday crushed to death two women and injured one other.

Tonye Cole is the governorship candidate of All Progressive Candidate in River state.

The occurrence is said to have taken a few points off him.

But sources however claimed the Sahara Group boss and his key men are working out modalities to ensure that things do not get out of hand.

Available information showed the ugly incident happened in Egbolom area of Abua Central-Ogonokom Road in Abua.

It actually transpired in the afternoon of Friday November 9 2018.

“The security details of the governorship candidate, in an attempt to avoid hitting a motorcyclist on the road, swerved their vehicles to the edge of the road, crushing the women on the walkway to death in the process”, Saturday Punch reported.

He was said to be on his way to a political gathering in Otapha, Abua on the fateful day.

Sources who are familiar with politics of the state disclosed the situation is creating a backlash of sort for the politician who is working hard to become the governor of his home state.

While residents are said to be whispering characters like him shouldn’t be allowed in the state.

“He has not become governor and cars in his convoy were moving about town in such high a speed. What would they do if he eventually becomes governor. I don’t think we need people like that as our governor”, a resident who is dissatisfied with the incident explained.
