The Lagos State Commissioner for Waterfront Infrastructure Development is Ekundayo Alebiosu, the grassroots man famously known as “D Bush”.

The ministry was created in June 2007 from the defunct Lagos State Waterfront & Tourism Development Corporation.

D’Bush is a former high-impact Federal lawmaker who served from 2007 to 2015 (two terms of 4 years each).

The Ministry he oversees is charged with ensuring” rapid development of the waterfront and protection of shorelines across the State through the provision of requisite and world-class infrastructure”.

It is a core function of the Ministry to curtail ocean surges, flooding, and illegal activities along the waterfront.

“Harnessing resources to ensure a well-protected environment that is attractive to tourists and observers” is also one of the roles of the Ministry for Waterfront Infrastructure Development.

The job of the Ministry, with Alebiosu as the newest man in charge, equally involves huge collaborations with other ministries as part of efforts towards achieving Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s Greater Lagos Arising master plan.

In providing clearer insight into the responsibilities of the Ministry, Alebiosu explained that “We are talking about different functions as established by the law of the state Assembly when it comes to the building of Jetties, the building of terminals, channelization amongst many other things. Dredging activities, reclamation – land reclamation activities, and so on.

“Basically, we regulate. We regulate and we handshake several ministries. For example, the Ministry of Tourism, we handshake them because we build the infrastructure that the services of tourism sit on, we also handshake the Ministry of Transport in the sense that we build the jetties. The water transportation sits on the infrastructure we provide, we also handshake physical planning. From time to time we work with various ministries to provide infrastructure. “

The man at the helms of affairs of the Ministry with the vision to develop the most effective and efficient State Waterfront Infrastructure in Africa gave the insight during an appearance on Channels Television earlier in the week.
