“There Has Been No Jail Break Since I Became Minister” – Interior Minister Aregbesola Declares

Minister of Interior, Rauf Aregbesola has declared there has never been any prison jail since he assumed office.

Aregbesola was appointed Minister for Interior by President Muhammadu Buhari in August 2019.

The Prison services which falls under his purview has experienced forceful release of inmates from different custodial facilities (the new name for Prisons according to the law), especially in the aftermath of violence that trail the EndSars agitation across the country.

But the minister during an appearance today, May 22, 2021, on The Platform hosted by Sam Omatseye and aired on Television Station, TVC insists that there has never been any jailbreak since he took over the Interior Ministry.

According to Argbesola “What we have had are external attacks on the custodial facilities.”

The minister inferred that the attacks carried out by people outside to free inmates from custodial facilities cannot qualify as prison break on the program monitored by societynow.ng.

He later noted that he may not be correct that there was never any prison under his watch, because rainfall led to the collapse of the walls of one of the custodial facilities in Kogi state and some inmates escaped.

“That was the only one” he said.

The Minister, however disclosed that measures have been put in place to prevent breaches of the custodial facilities from external attacks.

“Others will feel sorry for such person (who attempts to forcefully free inmates). He would not feel it because he would have been somewhere else” the minister said about the fate of possible aggressors at any of the nation’s custodial facilities.

Buffers outside the perimeter of the walls of the custodial facilities which will serve as no entry zones with fatal consequences for persons without authorization will be put in place the 63year old Minister disclosed on the show monitored by societynow.ng.

The minister’s disclosure on the program is in line with his directive to prisons chiefs about three weeks.

The former Governor of Osun State told those in charge of custodial facilities across the countries that “the weapons you carry are to be lawfully deployed.”
