Multiple sources have confirmed the mood in Idugaran, the seat of power of the Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, and Lagos Island as the king adds a year today, October 29, 2020.

“The mood is sombre” is the theme of reactions regarding the celebration of the 77th birthday of the Lagos King.

Societynow.ng gathered that Oba Akiolu’s birthday colored dark with the sacrilege that rocked his palace on Wednesday, October 21, 2020.

People labeled hoodlums stormed his palace under the guise of protesting the shooting of unarmed #EndSars protesters at the Lekki Toll-Gate on Tuesday, October 20, 2020.

The hoodlums vandalized and looted Oba Akiolu’s palace and made away with his traditional Staff of Office.

The Oba was rescued from harm by soldiers who stormed the palace and spirited him away.

How Oba Of Lagos Rilwan Akiolu Narrowly Escaped Attack When Rampaging Hoodlums Invaded His Palace

Societynow.ng gathered that the hoodlums had a free day after the Oba was rescued as they looted the palace making away with his money and personal effects including his shoes.

“The sacrilege of making away with the traditional staff of office was the biggest crime of all..they dealt the Oba a fatally blow and created an unwanted history for him…It has never happened in Lagos before now” societynow.ng learned.

The ‘Opa Ase” – Traditional Staff of Office – is the symbol of authority of a King.

After giving a deadline and invoking curses for the return of the stolen Staff of Office, custodians of tradition and priests of the Oba of Lagos yesterday, Wednesday, October 28, 2020, staged a procession to cleanse the palace and welcome the “Opa Ase” to the king’s palace.

They were silent on how the Staff of Office was recovered and returned to the palace barely twenty – four hours to the King’s birthday in the face of claims of using a replica.

“The magnitude of what has happened; the implication of the sacrilege committed has taken away all the shine from Oba Akiolu’s birthday.” Societynow.ng learned.
