Tanker Fire: NMDPRA, Federal Fire Service Partner On Prevention

The Controller General of the Federal Fire Service (FFS), Engr. Jaji O. Abdulganiyu, MIFireE, MNSE, received a representative of the Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed, at the Federal Fire Service Headquarters in Abuja.

The visit aimed to strengthen and enhance the existing collaboration between the two agencies.

During the meeting, the CEO of NMDPRA, ably represented by the Executive Director of Health, Safety, Environment, and Community (HSEC), Dr. Larmode Mustapha, emphasized the need for greater cooperation in addressing the recurring issue of tanker fires in Nigeria.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to ensure that tanker capacities do not exceed 45,000 liters and stressed the importance of preventive measures, which require the support of the Federal Fire Service and other stakeholders.

In response, the Controller General of the FFS underscored collaboration as a crucial tool for achieving national safety objectives.

He reaffirmed the FFS’s commitment to partnering with both governmental and non-governmental agencies to safeguard lives and property.

Additionally, he proposed the installation of speed limiters in all fuel tankers and the implementation of proper training programs for tanker drivers.

The discussion also emphasized the need for joint efforts in raising public awareness and educating Nigerians about the dangers of siphoning fuel from fallen tankers.
