Governor of Bayelsa State, Senator Douye Diri joined by his wives, Dr. Gloria Diri and Justice Ama Patience Diri, today graced the 3rd memorial thanksgiving service of his father, Late LayReader Abraham Joseph Michael Diri at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Sampou, Kolokuma/Opokuma LGA of the State.

Governor Diri said his late father was a God-fearing and highly disciplined man and thanked everyone for coming to honour him and the Diri family.

The governor used the memorial service to appreciate the legislature and judiciary for the seamless working relationship that existed amongst the three arms of government.

“I want to thank everyone for coming to honour our late father. Our father sown the seed of discipline and God-fearing in us. He and others contributed to the building of the Anglican church in Sampou.

I want to appreciate the Speaker and members of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and the Chief Judge and other Justices of the judiciary for the cordial relationship that has existed amongst the three arms of government for six years. We have been able to work together amicably. Even when there are minor misunderstandings, we settle them without going public. I pray for stronger cordial relationship in the remaining two years of our administration for us to finish strong.

Let me also appreciate my dear brother, David Lyon. It’s very rare for politicians who contested elections to be coming together the way I and him are coming together. We should have that forgiven spirit. Politics should not turn us into enemies. That way our state will be moving forward.

I am happy with the political class for the calmness in the state. Everybody is keying to the peace and harmony in the state. Let’s have the spirit of God. It’s only God that decides who gets power”, Gov. Diri said.

Dignitaries at the service were Senator Friday Konbowei Benson, representing Bayelsa Central, Senator Sunday Katung, representing Kaduna Central, Rt. Hon. Fred Agbedi, representing Sagbama/Ekeremor federal constituency, Rt. Hon. Abraham Ingobere, Speaker of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly and other members of the legislature, Rear Admiral Gboribiogha John Jonah(rtd), immediate past deputy governor of Bayelsa State, Engr. Gesi Asamowei, Chief David Lyon, Senator Degi Eremienyo, Senator Dimaro Deinyebofa, NDDC Bayelsa Rep, Caretaker Chairman of Bayelsa State APC, Dr. Dennis Otiotio, Deputy Chief of Staff, Government House, Mr. Irorodamie Komonibo, Head of Bayelsa State Civil Service, Dr. Wisdom Sawyer, Commissioners, Local Government Chairmen, Chief Reuben Clifford Wilson, clergy and other top government officials.
