After weeks of hard posture in the fight against Covid- 19, Governor of Ogun State Dapo Abiodun lowered the ball when it matters most.

The Governor turned a blind eye as thousands of supporters surged to Ijebu-Igbo to bury popular politician Kashamu Buruji.

Buruji died of complications from Covid-19 on Saturday, August 8, 2020.

His burial is underway today, Sunday, August 9, 2020, in Ogun State.

His burial is ongoing amid total lockdown imposed by Governor Dapo Abiodun on weekends in Ogun State in the fight against Covid-19.

‘’Conveniently, a government that caged citizens on weekends for weeks, arrest people for violating curfew and refuse to open religious houses for worships finds it convenient to look the other way when thousands come together to bury one a politician that helped it to power without observing Covid-19 protocols’’ a source stated.

Kashamu Buruji was one of the pivotal forces that helped Abiodun became the Governor of Ogun State.

The Governor disclosed that Kashamu’s death hit him to the ‘’ depth’’ of his being.

The investigation by societynow.ng revealed that Governor Abiodun has every chance to ‘’prevent’’ the gathering of the intimidating crowd and prevent a possible surge in the numbers of Covid- 19 infection if his administration had taken the initiative.

Insiders disclosed the earliest indications were the attention given to the death of Kashamu Buruji by all and sundry,  the announcement for the burial plan interests it generated on and offline, and the kind of crowd that received the remains very late yesterday night (August 8, 2020).

And there is his well-known popularity and fanatical followings.

‘’It is well known that Kashamu has supporters that are fiercely loyal to his cause and early indication revealed that many would want to be a part of it. The Government should have worked with the family in effecting a ploy to limit the crowd as a first option and put in a place a humane enforcement of lockdown as the second option and the observation of Covid-19 protocols as back up’’ a source stated.

Insiders, however, revealed that enforcement of ‘’lockdown’’ and ‘’Covid-19 protocols’’ collapsed totally as supporters and onlookers surged from different corners to witness the burial of the popular politician.

‘’It was a mess. It was a complete disaster as far as preventing Covid-19 is concerned, the pictures and videos emanating from the event say a lot’’ Societynow.ng learned.

The added investigation by societynow.ng revealed that the Governor – and his team – might have looked the other way for political consideration.

‘’It may be because of trying not to alienate huge supporters of Kashamu as the battle to determine who inherits them gets underway’’ societynow.ng learned.

‘’But whichever way you look at it, the Ogun State government that has been playing hardball on the restriction of movements, limiting of gatherings and opening of places of worships didn’t do well in handling this situation. This singular action may knock out the gains of past efforts if care is not taken’’ a source opined.
