“Senator Kalu, My Friend, Is A Patriot” – President Tinubu Declares

President Bola Tinubu has extended heartfelt birthday wishes to Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Governor of Abia State and Senator representing Abia North, as he clocks 65 years of age.

In a statement released on Monday, April 21, 2025, by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu described Senator Kalu as a long-time friend, patriot, and visionary leader whose legacy continues to enrich Nigeria’s political and economic landscape.

Reflecting on their enduring relationship, President Tinubu recalled the shared journey he and Senator Kalu began as members of the “Class of ’99” Governors, noting how that bond has stood the test of time. “Senator Kalu, my friend, is a patriot whose life embodies resilience, generosity, and the transformative power of visionary leadership,” the President stated.

The President praised the former Senate Chief Whip’s entrepreneurial strides, especially through Slok Holding, as well as his bold investments in banking and media.

He noted that Kalu’s ventures have not only demonstrated his business acumen but have also created hundreds of jobs and strengthened Nigeria’s private sector.

Highlighting their decades-long collaboration, President Tinubu said their relationship has been marked by mutual respect and a shared commitment to national development, even when they stood on opposite sides of the political divide.
