Omoyele Sowore, the publisher of popular online platform saharareporters.com has added a new twist to the race to determine the next president of Nigeria.

Sowore has announced the intention to be “the man”.

This is in the face of interests from obviously more politically grounded aspirants and body language of the incumbent that indicate the desire to retain office.

Though President Muhammadu Buhari is yet to officially declare the intention to re-contest, the majority of the Governors elected under his ruling party, All Progressives Congress, and other political heavyweights on the same platform are publicly pushing for his re-election.

The election is barely a year away.

In the face of this Sowore who claimed to have done a lot of groundwork in the last two months wants to become president.

He appears the one with the least experience in active politicking in a long list of aspirants – including the formidable former Vice President Atiku Abubakar – established structures and die-hard loyalists.

Since he declared his intention via an interview on Premiumtimesng.com during the week, the announcement – based on reactions – appears to generate reactions of just “an added drama” to the presidential race.

“He is not being taken seriously and the reasons are obvious” a source disclosed.

With a background in activism, Sowore became a popular name with the dare it all approach of his news platform saharareporters to political reportage.

He has amassed as many enemies as followers.

“Beyond news reporting, he is just another guy out there, so how he intends to leverage that into becoming the next president beats me” a source stated.

To his credit, Sowore claims to be working on a collation among progressive groups and some political parties, but those who understand the political terrain insists the saharareporters publishers still based in the United States of America as the election nears is “just adding drama to the process”.
