Real Reasons Akpabio Is About To Dump PDP For APC

Godswill Akpabio, the former governor of Akwa Ibom state is decorated with defection.

Akpabio – now a Senator – is said to be in intense talks with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress to dump the People’s Democratic Party.

The ruling political party is reportedly desperate to shore up its numbers in the Senate.

APC – President Muhammadu Buhari’s political party – took a major hit with the defection of not less than fifteen Senators from its fold to opposition PDP.

The defection of Senate President Bukola Saraki compounded the political party’s woes in the Senate.

The move to get minority leader Akpabio to defect from the PDP to the APC is seen as a major attempt at halting the loss of popularity in the green chamber – and country societynowng.com learned.

But those in the know claim negotiation behind getting Akapio to defect from the APC to the PDP is ‘’beyond the normal’’.

According to information credited to a report on a national newspaper, Punch Akpabio is leaving the PDP for the ruling party because the APC government is ‘’ threatening to use the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission against him if he did not work to deliver his state, Akwa Ibom, for the ruling party in 2019. ’’

T he national newspaper further credited an unnamed source as asserting that “What is happening is that the APC has threatened to deal with him, using the EFCC and he doesn’t want that at all.

“Although, we are all pleading with him not to leave the party (PDP), but he is afraid. He doesn’t want to be in EFCC’s net at all. He is really under pressure but we hope that he would listen to us.”

Societynowng.com gathered the APC is also attempting to leverage on the alleged frosty relationship between Akpabio and his successor Governor Emmanuel Udom to lure in over.

Though in the same party, Akpabio and Udom are said to be enmeshed in a war of ‘’supremacy’’ for the soul of the PDP in the state.
