Presidency Jittery As David Mark Begins Consultation Over Presidential Ambition

…Governor Amaechi hire ‘image makers’ to counter attacks

President Goodluck Jonathan and his handlers are in disarray.

Sources attribute this development to the introduction of a new factor in the president’s battle for re election within his party- PDP.

Senator President David Mark is said to have started consultation on how to become the next President of Nigeria.

Insiders revealed though- Mr Mark is believed to nurse presidential ambition of his own, the on going talks is a result of ‘push’ from other stakeholders.

Findings revealed forces opposed to re election efforts of President Jonathan approached Mr Mark and offered to back him if he signifies interest in the Presidency.

These individuals within the People’s Democratic Party – with supports of others outside it – believe it is only the Senate President that has the political clout and influence, in and out of the party, to stop President Jonathan’s ambition.

And with an added value, he appears a ‘marketable candidate’ to the electorates based on his indepth experience in government- and vital roles credited to him in recent time, especially the transmission of President Jonathan from Vice President to the present.

Also included is the idea that, he cuts ‘a solid figure and boast of a grounded stature’ to face any opposition candidate- particularly with the formation of a grand alliance by the other sides facing the PDP in the coming elections.

Sources claimed his interest embolden by the shown support- Mr Mark has started consultation with different factions, in and out of the PDP.

Along with his backers, he is said to be working on getting the support of the ‘decisive northern interests’ that eludes President Jonathan.

Insiders revealed the very low profile move appears to be yielding ‘positive results’

A feedback that is said to have gotten to President Jonathan and his handlers and thrown them off guard.

Maintained a rabid Mr Jonathan supporter ‘ Prior to this development all the challenges before the President’s re election moves appeared surmountable…but the emergence of David Mark changes that equation…he is probable the biggest obstacle you can come across within the PDP at present’

It is not clear at present what political strategy the Presidency intends to employ to nip the David Mark agenda in the bud before it gets popular and out of hand.

Sources attribute the attempt to moves to protect his reputation from mudslinging that may arise from the ongoing ‘fight’ with the president.

Insiders revealed the image handlers recently hosted wide spread stakeholders in the media towards achieving this.

The development came to be in his domain in Rivers state ( shortly before he travelled to London).

Another source provided further insight into the arrangement ‘ the move is also meant to provide a platform for him to fight back…if and when the need arises’

President Jonathan and Governor Amaechi’s conflict has root in the Rivers front man’s opposition to the President’s re election bid.
