Presidency Disowns Nationwide 2027 Campaign Billboards For Tinubu & Shettima
distanced itself from a growing wave of billboards
The Presidency has strongly distanced itself from a growing wave of billboards in parts of the country promoting a 2027 presidential campaign for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima.
In a statement issued on Saturday, April 13, 2025, by Mr. Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the government expressed dismay over the proliferation of these campaign materials, particularly in Abuja and Kano, warning that such actions violate the nation’s electoral laws.
“These billboards, some of which bear images of President Tinubu and First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, have not been authorised by the President or the Vice President,” the statement clarified. “While both leaders remain grateful for the loyalty and support of Nigerians, they do not condone or support any premature political campaigns.”
Citing the Electoral Act, Onanuga reminded the public that any form of political campaign ahead of the official timetable set by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is illegal and capable of undermining the integrity of the democratic process.
“President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima are law-abiding leaders who are focused on delivering the mandate they were elected for. They have not authorised any individual or group to begin a campaign on their behalf,” Onanuga emphasized.
The Presidency called on those behind the 2027 campaign billboards to desist immediately, describing the ongoing deployment of campaign materials as “unauthorised and unacceptable.”
Reaffirming their commitment to the task of nation-building, Onanuga noted that President Tinubu and his deputy remain focused on critical national priorities, including economic revitalisation, human capital development, infrastructure renewal, social investment, and national security.
The statement concluded with a firm message: “When the time is right and INEC officially opens the 2027 political season, Nigerians will hear directly from President Tinubu on his plans. Until then, the focus remains squarely on governance, not politics.”
