Oluwole Oke, the long-serving member of the House of Representatives from Osun State, has shed more light on his recent political defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), emphasizing that his immediate priority is mobilisation and unity within the ruling party.

In a post shared on his social media platforms, Oke, who is currently serving his fifth term representing the people of Ijesa North Federal Constituency, made it clear that he is not preoccupied with contesting any elective position at this time. Rather, he noted that his attention is fully set on strengthening the APC across Ijesa North, Osun East Senatorial District, and Osun State as a whole.

“More are still coming to join us,” Oke wrote, hinting at ongoing realignments and the momentum his defection is generating. “Mobilisation is the project before me now in Ijesa North, Osun East Senatorial District and Osun State and not contest for one elective office or the other.”

The seasoned lawmaker, known for his grassroots appeal and deep understanding of Osun’s political dynamics, advised that the party must remain focused and avoid the pitfalls that often plague opposition movements. “When APC wins, we would have everything in abundance. A party in opposition should avoid internal wrangling and feud. You cannot win an election when you are not united,” he stated, delivering what many perceive as a subtle call for harmony within the APC’s ranks.

Oke’s defection to the APC came as a major political development in Osun State, particularly because of his longstanding affiliation with the PDP and his visible role in national legislative affairs. His move is widely viewed as a strategic gain for the APC ahead of the 2026 governorship and 2027 general elections, with political observers suggesting that Oke’s influence could help consolidate support for the party in key strongholds.

Although there has been speculation around Oke’s political aspirations post-defection, his recent remarks suggest a deliberate positioning as a mobiliser and bridge-builder, rather than a contender—at least for now. By downplaying any immediate personal ambition, he seems to be signaling a focus on party strengthening and cohesion, which many believe is critical to APC’s performance in Osun’s evolving political landscape.

His comments also highlight the broader political lesson about unity and discipline, particularly within parties transitioning from opposition to ruling status or vice versa. With Osun politics growing increasingly competitive, figures like Oke could play a pivotal role in shaping outcomes—not just by contesting—but by creating the conditions necessary for electoral success.

As political permutations continue in Osun State, all eyes will remain on Oluwole Oke and how his next moves will shape the balance of power within the APC and beyond.
