Pls Don’t Do This To Us!…Community Leaders Beg As 10,000 Jobs Are Threatened Over Govt Shut Down Of BUA Mining Site

Leaders of Okpella, the community where the disputed Obu mining site is located are pleading with the federal government to reverse it’s shut down order.

The stakeholders disclose operator of the mine, BUA group has provided over 10,000 jobs for the community with its operations.

Government decision to shut down the mine in the face of “ownership” claim by Dangote – BUA’s fierce competitor – renders the workers “unemployed”.

And the community leaders are deeply concerned over the repercussion of taking away the means of livelihood of about 10,000 individuals, majorly youths in a community.

They fear an increase in crime rate in the area looms.

The community leaders in their take of the situation leading to the shut down throw their weight behind BUA group in the raging dispute.

They insist Dangote’s claim to the mine is “illogical”.

In a report monitored on thenation, Godwin Isichei an ex council chairman of the locality speaking on behalf of the leaders stated emphatically “What Dangote is claiming is in Okene. What BUA inherited from Bendel Cement is Obuh. We don’t have Obuh at Okenne. There is no way Obuh can be in Okenne, Kogi State. The place should be opened to any investors. We are not asking Dangote not to come but the way he is going about the whole process, the entire community is not happy. He should not instigate the shutting down of BUA. Dangote does not have a Cement plant but BUA has a plant and has even expanded”.

“It was wrong to shut the mining site when the matter is pending in court. Where is the order to close down the site. Obaseki can call both sides and resolved the issue. We do not want our community to be turned to a theatre of problem.”
