‘’Please Help Them’’ Concerned Citizen Raises Alarm Over Disease Wiping Out Piggeries

Owners of piggeries in different parts of the country, particularly the southwest are in dire need of help.

Wale Adedayo, a concerned citizen has raised alarm over the scourge of African Swine fever wiping out pig farms.

Adedayo stated that a farm he knows of an entire farm that has been wiped out and another farmer that has lost 400 pigs.

Adedayo a strong advocate of good governance with his hand on the pulse of national politics and happenings in Ogun State posted on social media

‘’I don’t eat pork, except the pig was offered to any of our deities. But African Swine Fever is ravaging piggeries all over the place. Farmers are feeling the heat. An uncle, Omoba Leke Adesanya, has lost more than 400 already. Waliji in Tajala, Oke Ife, Ijebu Ife had his entire piggery wiped out.

Son of man is very sure that similar situations exist in other places across Nigeria. And, I seriously believe the Government across board should intervene to help these Farmers. Most of them built these farms on bank loans. They need assistance. The Government should help, please’’

The added checks by societynow.ng revealed that a major piggery in Lagos State operating on government land leased by private pig farmers in Agbado Oke- Aro area has suffered a huge loss of pigs.

‘’I heard the pigs are dying in large numbers in that place and other places, especially during the lockdown but I can’t confirm the cause of the high rate of fatality’’ a source stated.
