Insiders insist that talks of a rift between Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu and his influential Chief of Staff, Tayo Ayinde are a mirage.

Those who should point to Ayinde’s deep involvement in the process of governance and continuing open association with the Governor as major pointers to the true position of things.

“Pictures that tell of their rapport since the reappointment of Ayinde as Chief of Staff litter the public space and are on their social media handles” those who should know assert.

Among the photos pointed to are some taken during the retreat programme for the newly sworn-in State Executive Council and body of Permanent Secretaries for Sanwo-Olu’s second term, where Ayinde reportedly played his usual low-profile but very invested role.

Another is the picture of Sanwo-Olu’s condolence visit to the family and loved ones of the doyen of accounting in Nigeria, Akintola Williams which Ayinde featured prominently.

Also included is the big profile representation Ayinde and Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat made to the mother of late rising singer Mohbad (Promise Oladimeji Aloba) amid intense public outcry of circumstances surrounding the death of the 27year old artiste.

Like several other things they did together or separately, the Governor posted the video of the September 15, 2023, visit to Mohbad’s mother by the Chief of Staff and Deputy Governor along with a cover note endorsing the action.

The latest proof that dispels claims of coldness between them is the image of Ayinde’s attendance when Sanwo-Olu hosted Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja at the Lagos House, Marina on Monday.

Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu (middle); Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja (sixth left); Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mr Gboyega Akosile (fourth left); Commander, 9 Brigade, Ikeja Cantonment, Brigadier General Adegoke Adetuyi (left); Chief of Staff to the Governor, Mr Tayo Ayinde (fourth right) and others

“The pieces of evidence are out there that contradicts claims of a silent rift or coldness. Sanwo-Olu and Ayinde are very much together and working hand in glove for the progress of Lagos State” according to the information at hand.

Both Ayinde and Sanwo-Olu have the roots of their political influences – and power – in association with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

After serving as the Chief Of Staff in Sanwo-Olu’s first term, Ayinde was re-appointed for the same position in the Governor’s second term on June 8, 2023.

Sanwo-Olu was sworn in for a second term in office on May 29, 2023.
