Photo Confirms New Rapport Between Obaseki & His Dep, Shaibu

The rapport between Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy Philip Shaibu has changed again.

And a picture that confirms it has emerged.

From the position of nothing having anything to do with each other in public and private, Obaseki has embraced the toga of friendliness.

The Governor took the change in tactics, which started with identifying with Shaibu on his 54th birthday, a step further by openly greeting the Deputy Governor with an exchange of handshake during the presentation of the budget for 2024 at the Edo state House of Assembly on December 5, 2023.

This is a clear departure from the actions of the past seven months that resulted in the relocation of the office of the Deputy Governor away from that of the Governor – and the stoppage of its allocations for about five months.

One of the crownings of the distancing was the barring of the Deputy Governor from speaking with the Governor by security aides in church on Sunday, August 27, 2023, at the service to signpost the 32 years of the creation of Edo state.

But all that changed as Obaseki abruptly changed his approach on Friday, December 1, 2023 – barely days after Shaibu officially declared his intention to become the next Governor of Edo state.

Shaibu’s ambition caused the conflict with the Governor who is said to prefer another person as successor.
