Rauf Aderemi Olaniyan, the deputy governor of Oyo state has been removed from office.

His removal was done today, Monday, July 18, 2022 by the Oyo state House of Assembly.

The development is the fallout of weeks of the face-off between Olaniyan and Governor Seyi Makinde.

The face-off resulted in the deputy governor exiting the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) that brought him to power to join the opposition All Progressives Congress (APC) while still clinging to his position.

His exit from the PDP opened the door for his removal from office by the State House of Assembly at the instance of Governor Makinde.

His removal is in the face of a litigation process to stop the attempt but attributed to the adoption of the recommendation of a panel that reportedly investigated corruption allegations against the deputy governor.
