Biyi Otegbeye, the anointed candidate of former Senator Ibikunle Amosun for the March 2023 gubernatorial election in Ogun state has shut down talks of a rift with his principal.

There were claims of a cold war, attributed to actions and inactions before and during the electoral process, between the two on the heels of the gubernatorial contest.

The talks were fueled by assertions that Otegbeye who was the gubernatorial candidate of the Action Democratic Party (ADC) on the bill of Amosun refused to publicly identify with his sponsor after he came third with 94, 754 votes.

Dapo Abiodun of the All Progressives Congress won the election with 276, 298 votes to secure another term while People’s Democratic Party’s Ladi Adebutu who is contesting Abiodun’s win in the court of law recorded 262, 383 votes.

However, otegbeye, who is back in the All Progressives Congress (APC), has shut down the talks of a rift with Amosun.

The gubernatorial candidate was one of the thousands of loyalists at the New Year party organized by the former Governor at his residence in Ibara, Abeokuta, Ogun state.

Otegbeye proclaimed Amosun “a great leader, mentor and lover of grassroots” at the event on Wednesday, January 3, 2024.

And even went on camera to declare that Amosun is “a former governor of Ogun state that left the seat with unrivaled landmarks”.

Otegebye’s declaration is in the face of unending debates over how well Amosun performed as a former two-term governor of Ogun state ( May 2011 to May 2019).
