Oluremi Tinubu, Nigeria’s first lady, has congratulated Seyi Tinubu on his installation as the Òkanlómọ of Yorubaland, describing the honour as a recognition of dedication, leadership and service to the people.

In a goodwill message following the ceremony in Oyo, the first lady said the revered title reflects Seyi Tinubu’s commitment to uplifting communities and advancing Yoruba cultural values.

“This prestigious honour recognises your dedication, leadership and tireless commitment to uplifting our people and advancing the values of our culture,” she said.

And, added “may God grant you wisdom, strength and humility as you embrace this noble responsibility, and may your service continue to inspire Yorubaland and Nigeria.”

Seyi Tinubu received the title from His Imperial Majesty, Oba Abimbola Akeem Owoade I, the Alaafin of Oyo, during a colourful and historic event that also saw Senator Abdulaziz Yari, former governor of Zamfara state, installed as the Obalóyin of Yorubaland.

The ceremony drew a high-powered gathering of political leaders and dignitaries, including Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Deputy Speaker Benjamin Kalu, Senate Majority Leader Michael Bamidele, other lawmakers and prominent figures from across the country, underscoring the national significance of the occasion.

Speaking at the event, the Alaafin said the conferment of the titles was in recognition of service, leadership and contributions to national development. “These honours are bestowed on individuals whose records of service reflect commitment to the people and to the progress of our nation,” the monarch said.

Guests at the ceremony hailed the installations as a celebration of culture and continuity, noting that the honours reinforce the enduring relevance of Yoruba traditional institutions in contemporary national life.
