A homecoming reception was held for former Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo in his new political base in Ikenne, Ogun state.

Osinbajo shifted his electoral rights from Lagos to Ogun state ahead of the contest for the All Progressives Congress (APC) presidential ticket that he – and other contenders – lost by a landslide to President Bola Tinubu.

About a month and and a week after he left office, the immediate past Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria was hosted to a homecoming reception at Obafemi Awolowo Square, Ikenne Remo, Ogun State.

Checks by SocietyNow.Ng revealed that Governors Godwin Obaseki (Edo) and Duoye Diri (Bayelsa) were the star guests of the engagement including Senator Seriake Dickson – the former Governor of Bayelsa State.

They are all chieftains of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) while Osinbajo is that of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Governor of Ogun state, Dapo Abiodun was the chief host of the homecoming reception according to information available to SocietyNow.Ng.

It is believed that Osinbajo’s appointment as the Chairman of the Commonwealth Observer Group (COG) to the Sierra Leone general elections – a task he took up immediately he exited office as Vice President on May 29, 2023 – delayed the homecoming reception since till Sunday.

Osinbajo spent weeks in Sierra Leone before the election on Saturday, June 24, 2023 and days after to see the process through.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that though there were “plenty guests”, notable names in the APC and elected officials, even in Ogun state, were “scarce”.

Added checks by SocietyNow.Ng revealed former Ministers Niyi Adebayo and Rauf Aregbesola, immediate past Secretary to the Government of the Federation – Boss Mustapha, former Governor Donald Duke – all staunch associates – honored Osinbajo with their presence at the event.
