Musiliu Akinsanya, the chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Lagos State better known as MC Oluomo has thrown his weight behind the raging protests against the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

MC Oluomo who is also widely known as the favorite street muscle of powerful politician Asiwaju Bola Tinubu reveals the reason for this move in a statement that reads…

It is high time I lend my voice to the ongoing nationwide protests calling for the abolition of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS).

It is important to state clearly that the legitimate duties of SARS in our society cannot be overemphasized because it aimed at reducing incidences of armed robbery and other related crimes thereby protecting lives and properties of the citizens. In lieu of this, I stand to support a peaceful protest with a clear mission statement “REFORM THE NIGERIA POLICE FORCE” and “END POLICE BRUTALITY”.

This call became pertinent owning to the numerous accusations of unlawful arrests, torture, extortion and exploitation of innocent citizens and even murder by some unscrupulous officers of the Nigeria Police, particularly SARS operatives. These uncultured, mannerless and unethical officers in the Nigeria police who have decided to jettisoned their primary assignment of protecting the lives and properties of the citizens but turned themselves into terrorists in police uniforms.

Give us “REFORMED SPECIAL ANTI-ROBBERY SQUAD (RSARS)” and “REFORM NIGERIA POLICE FORCE” by putting an end to the senseless killings of innocent citizens and police brutality.
