Those plotting the removal of the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa are unhappy.

Interestingly their unhappiness stems from what appears to put the Deputy Governor at risk – on paper.

As part of the conflict resolution move by President Bola Tinubu, to protect all interests, stakeholders reportedly agreed that the Deputy Governor sign an undated letter of resignation as a pre-condition to assume executive power.

Information here and there indicates that the move was to ensure that the Deputy Governor does not act contrary to “understandings” after he is vested with executive power.

“However while the President endorsed the agreement for the signing of an undated letter of resignation by the Deputy Governor, he rebuffed suggestions any of the other stakeholders should have access to it, to ensure a level playing ground” according to those in the know.

There was a push that the “letter” should reside with the Ondo State House of Assembly for safekeeping, but the President shut down the attempt with the point out that, the legislative body was at the forefront of impeachment moves against the Deputy Governor until his intervention. He insisted it would be unfair to the Deputy Governor – and his sympathizers – for such to happen.

Ondo stakeholders at peace meeting with President Tinubu

“As the arbiter and peacemaker, the inventive accord that the undated letter of resignation resides with President Tinubu was adopted but this has not gone down well with those out for the Deputy Governor” according to information.

The ploy was that the undated resignation letter, in the hands of a pliable stakeholder, would pave the way for the easy removal of the Deputy Governor but the twist that handed it to President Tinubu scuttled it.

“Because President Tinubu whose intervening bailed out the Deputy Governor from unceasing trouble made it clear that the undated letter of resignation would come into play after extensive confirmation and verifiable pieces of evidence show Aiyedatiwa breached all constitutional provisions that required such” added information disclosed.

Unrelenting campaign preventing the Deputy Governor from taking charge of the state while Governor Akeredolu recuperates from an undisclosed ailment, that has kept him away from office, snowballed into the crisis that halted governance in the state – and factionalized its chapter of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Akeredolu

The unflattering campaigns were credited to power mongers profiting from Akeredolu’s absence and all out to install one of their own as the next Governor of Ondo state next year – 2024.

President Tinubu’s intervention – highlighted by a meeting on Friday, November 24, 2023 – diffused through an agreement that protects the interests of all – including the ailing Akeredolu.

All things being equal, the arrangement will ensure Akeredolu sees out his term as Governor while Aiyedatiwa takes over the running of the State, protects the standings of other appointed and elected political officers – and effectively diminishes the influence of the power mongers.
