Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly have called on the Lagos State Governor, Mr. Akinwunmi Ambode to liaise with the Federal Government to reinforce security of the state and to speedily assent the Neighbourhood and Safety Corp Bill recently passed by the House.

The House also called on the Governor on the need for immediate implementation of the provisons of the Bill as soon as it is assented into law.
While raising the issue under matter of urgent public importance, Hon. Victor Akande stated that it is necessary to beef up security due to the recent kidnap cases which is becoming more rampant in Lagos, especially the recent abduction of a monarch, Oba Goriola Oseni, Oniba of Iba land, who was kidnapped in his palace.

Hon. Akande condemned the monarch’s kidnap by perpetrators who used the waterways as an escape route.

In his contribution, Hon. Saka Fafunmi described the act as disheartening and shameful which is getting rampant in Lagos State. He condemned the abduction saying “How can a whole Oba be kidnapped in his domain?

Hon. David Setonji emphasized that for an Oba to be kidnapped; it means an ordinary citizen will be taken as an animal.

Also speaking, Hon. Biodun Tobun stated that the Oba’s kidnap “is an insult on the Yoruba race and an aberration on our culture”.

In his ruling, the Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Mudashiru Obasa said that the issue of security has been discussed several times on the floor of the House. He stated that urgent action should be taken to address the situation. He therefore called on the State Governor to expedite action and assent the Neighbourhood Safety Corp Bill recently passed by the House and ensure its immediate implementation.

He also directed the Clerk of the House to write a condolence letter to the guard of the monarch who was killed.

In another development the report on a bill for a law to prohibit forcible entry and occupation of landed properties, violent and fraudulent conducts in a relation to landed properties in Lagos State and for connected purposes was presented, debated and subsequently adopted as the resolution of the House with minor amendment.
