Lekki Cruisers Are All Round Winners At Thunder Games 2023

The Thunder Games, organized by the Lekki Volleyball Club and held at the Teslim Balogun Stadium, just concluded on December 9, 2023, with Lekki Cruisers emerging Winners in both the Male and Female categories.

The 5-day tournament, tagged ‘The Best of Lagos,’ featured 10 male teams and 8 female teams from across Lagos State. Some of the participating teams included Lekki Cruisers, Legacy VC, Logistics Spikers, Icons and others.

Sponsored by MTN Nigeria, Yello Sisi, Amstel Malta, TDA Couture and several other brands, the tournament presented many highlights, drawing a packed stadium audience and online viewers.

Commenting on the victory, Gbegbaje Chamuke Odafe, President of the Lekki Volleyball Club, said, “The players and the club really put in a lot preparing for this tournament. So winning in both the male and female categories just confirms that with proper preparations, there can be no limitations in life. This is a proud moment for us as a club.”

The chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, Engr Olusola Aluko, expressed excitement about the successful completion of the tournament, providing top-class volleyball entertainment for the volleyball community in Nigeria.

“This is the second edition of the tournament, and we aimed to match the quality we offered last year. I am glad to say we did, as splendid volleyball talents were showcased in front of an excited audience. For us, we are simply proud to promote this lovely game,” he said.

Some special performers of the event include Mayowa and Rafiyat of Lekki Cruisers, who emerged as the Most Valuable male and female Players. Amina of Logistics Spikers emerged ‘Best Female Blocker’, while Abuchi of Legacy Volleyball Club emerged ‘Best Male Blocker.’

The game of volleyball is gaining popularity in Nigeria, with virtually all standard schools and cities having courts and a growing number of players. It is an exciting game that many players consider therapeutic
