Lawyer Says Abba Kyari Suffering From Chronic Diabetes Threatening His Life

Cynthia Obianujiu Ikena, the counsel to detained Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Abba Kyari says her client is suffering from chronic diabetes and hypertension threatening his life.

The lawyer made the revelation as part of efforts to help Kyari secure conditional release from the custody of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

Kyari before his recent arrest while suspended from duties for involvement in another corruption case involving infamous swindler Hushpuppi – Ramoni Abbas Olohunwa – was the head of the Inspector General of Police Intelligence Response Team.

He was arguable the most “visibly active” police officer around.

The NDLEA is holding on to Kyari as part of the investigation into an expanding drug case.

Kyari is accused of being part of a drug cartel.

He was arrested based on incriminating evidence.

His lawyer went to court in a suit marked FHC/ABJ/CS/182/22 seeking his immediate release on liberal bail conditions.

The Federal High Court in Abuja with Justice Inyang Eden Ekwo presiding turned down the request.

The court must give the Federal Government the opportunity to hear the claims and allegations in the suit seeking to free Kyari from custody.

The court ordered Kyari’s lawyer to put the respondet on notice and scheduled February 4, 2021, for all parties to appear on the case.
