It is a political mess for the Governor of Ogun State, Dapo Abiodun.

A seemingly good gesture has left him bloodied, politically.

The 3bedroom apartment and N5million gifts the Governor handed to Lekan Agbeleshe, the winner of this year’s edition of Big Brother Naija (BBN) has landed him in trouble with friends and enemies.

The Governor gave Agbeleshe popularly known as Laycon the gifts including making him an Ambassador for Youths yesterday – October 6, 2020 – when the BBN winner paid him a courtesy visit.

The move has been turned into a whirlwind of a campaign against Governor Abiodun.

This is against the backdrop that Laycon earned N30million in cash, a two-bedroom courtesy Revolution Plus Property, a home makeover courtesy scanfrost, a trip to Dubai courtesy travel beta, a trip to Dublin courtesy Guinness, a trip to see final of UEFA in 2021, one year full supply of Munchies, Minime, Pepsi including a N6.5million from games as the winner of this year edition of BBNaija.

Friends and opponents have turned the Ogun state government gifts as a campaign tool against the Governor.

And it is hurting the governor badly in the grassroots.

The Governor’s friends, especially those who worked to get him elected in the fierce 2019 Ogun gubernatorial contest are miffed that Governor Abiodun doled out all of N5million and a 3 bedroom bungalow to someone that did not do as much as they did.

The widely shared comment ‘’ I know many guys working with Governor Prince Dr. Dapo Abiodun – MFR and are still living in a rented apartment. These guys worked their ass off to make sure they contribute to his success at the poll and also do their best to project his administration. How a Laycon suddenly gets a 3 bedroom apartment and a gift of 5million naira without lifting a finger for DA still baffles me.

It is gross misplacement of priority. Remember yesterday was Teachers’ Day.

But then, what do i know!’’ by Akanni Balogun, a passionate stakeholder in the affairs of Ogun state sums up the angst of many supporters of Governor Abiodun.

This is on the heels of growing angst that the governor has not ‘’compensated’’ all those that fought for him to be Governor.

Members of the political alliance that brought the governor to power have consistently accused him of sideling them – and their leaders since he came to power.

They are accusing the governor of wasting taxpayers money to massage his ego of feeding on what is trending with the gifts to Laycon – who does not really need it.

Societynow.ng gathered that Abiodun’s political enemies are also feeding fat on the situation with multi-headed narratives of misplaced priority against the Governor.

Societynow.ng gathered that the narratives against Abiodun are being pushed right into the heart of the grassroots putting the governor’s gifts to Laycon and the BBNaija’s winners winning side by side decorated with the perception of the show as a promotion of immorality.

It also has not helped that the best teacher got 2Bedroom Bungalow while Laycon got a 3Bedroom plus cash.

The image of Laycon ‘’eating up’’ Nengi, another housemate during in the BBNaija reality show with the caption ‘’Ogun State Youth Ambassador On Camara’’ in circulation has not helped Governor Abiodun’s argument of recognizing talent with his gifts to the reality show winner.

‘’What is happening to the image of Governor Abiodun in the grassroots is a political massacre with this laycon matter’’ a source stated.

Societynow.ng gathered that, though, the Governor is trying to push back the narratives with the release of the details of related recognitions given to youths in the past and images of ongoing projects societynow.ng, however, gathered the issue at hand has dealt him ‘’a massive blow’’.

‘’Especially because of the way he handled the recent labor issue. He is believed to have treated the workers badly by refusing to meet with them, even after they went on strike but fit enough to meet with Laycon and dole out state resources in recognition of someone who won N85m for sleeping and eating and generally enjoying himself for 71days…the market women and others – who form the bulk of voters – paying tickets for their stalls and shops are not happy hearing that and that is exactly what the opposition is pushing out garnished with different versions’’ societynow.ng learned.

Insiders insist this development has knocked huge points from Governor Abiodun’s popularity among the ‘’masses’’.
