Afenifere, the pan Yoruba organization has slammed the former military head of state Ibrahim Badamosi Gbadamosi over his fresh claims on why he annulled the famous June 12, 1993, presidential election.

Babangida who is more popularly known as IBB – the acronym of his names – in a recent interview with Arise TV claimed he canceled the result of the presidential election that was adjudged, home and abroad, as the true definition of democracy to prevent a bloody coup.

Afenifere tagged the fresh claims by IBB on the election won by Moshood Kashimawo Abiola who died in government custody in the course of the fight to claim his mandate as “preposterous” and “insulting the intelligence of Nigerians”.

The reaction of Afenifere through a statement signed by Secretary-General Sola Ebiseni and monitored by societynow.ng on dailypost.ng reads in part “It is even more preposterous that IBB will only now be insulting the intelligence of Nigerians that he annulled their mandate to forestall a violent coup, which, by reasonable inference, he was aware of.

“He lost the opportunity of being the hero of democracy and father of a new Nigeria, an eternal regret that no whitewashing on television can redeem.

“However, it is no gainsaying the fact that the present administration has made saints of all previous administrations in every aspect of governance,”
