Sources close to the former Governor of Abia State, Orji Uzor Kalu say there are strong indications that he will not support the gubernatorial ambition of his former protege Chima Anyaso.

Kalu and young money Anyaso mended fences last year after a protracted fallout.

The fence-mending saw Anyaso back in the graces of the former Governor, visiting his home and attending events associated with him.

SocietyNow.Ng gathered that the reconciliation was done last year (2021) and Anyaso declared his gubernatorial ambition in early April 2022.

Insiders insist that outside of the fact that Orji Kalu has moved to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) while Anyaso remains in the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), what went down between them will play a huge role in the future.

“At the level of politics that Orji Kalu plays, he demands absolute loyalty and gives no room for any error in judgment as regards loyalty among his followers, especially hardcore followers. Chima Anyaso was a member of his innermost circle and, the fallout and open war with Orji Kalu are tagged as everything against what helps the former Governor keep his supporters together. It didn’t help matter that Anyaso reportedly sided with known enemies during this period. They might have reconciled but the talks in Orji Kalu’s camp are he won’t risk handing state power to his former protege because of the fear of being at the receiving end of a possible backlash. He is always paranoid about suffering the Obasanjo treatment again ” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.

The Obasanjo treatment was meted out by former President Olusegun Obasanjo when he was in power.

Orji Kalu who was the Governor of Abia state was at the forefront of a strong move to stop Obasanjo’s re-election as President in 2003.

The PDP Governors with Kalu and James Ibori (Delta State) playing active roles preferred Vice President Atiku Abubakar as the next President.

Obasanjo ate the humble pie and begged Atiku and all the Governors including Kalu and Ibori to allow him to get a second term in office.

Obasanjo’s pleas were accepted, fences were mended, agreements were made and he secured a second term in office.

“Kalu, Ibori, and all those involved in the move to stop him including Atiku suffered for it. They are yet to get over the repercussion of giving power to the person they moved against. The lessons of that episode have remained with Kalu, it is one of the main reasons his people insist he won’t back the gubernatorial ambition of Anyaso” SocietyNow.Ng gathered.
