The race to determine the next occupier of the Remo House of Representatives seat is generating interest, with several names being thrown into the mix.

However, sources say a stakeholders’ roadmap to electing the successor of Adewunmi Onanuga alias Ijaya, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Federal House of Representatives, who breathed her last on January 15, 2025, has provided more clarity.

“Onanuga, who passed away in her second term in office, recorded unprecedented achievements across the federal constituency—from road construction and rehabilitation to healthcare through the provision of affordable treatments and the building of health centers. She also boosted education by providing learning materials, awarding scholarships, constructing and renovating schools, and implementing empowerment initiatives that cut across social statuses and demographics. She executed numerous high-impact projects, many of which commenced towards the tail end of her first term and extended into her abruptly ended second term,” a source disclosed.

Information at hand reveals that, against this background, stakeholders are pushing for her successor to be someone with experience in legislative matters and a strong grasp of government workings—rather than a newcomer who would require time to learn the ropes, potentially stalling development.

Those in the know disclosed that this position is being vigorously championed by leaders across the constituency, which encompasses Ikenne, Sagamu, and Remo North.

Keen watchers describe this agitation as a huge advantage for Muyiwa Oladipo, reinforcing discussions about his status as a leading aspirant.

Oladipo is a former Speaker of the Ogun State House of Assembly, which would automatically make him a ranking member of the Federal House of Representatives if elected.

“He is already familiar with the legislative process, possesses more than an average understanding of the behind-the-scenes procedures required to get things done, and has a strong grasp of government operations as a former multiple-term commissioner,” a source pointed out.

The former Speaker served as the Ogun State Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs from 2015 to 2019 and as Commissioner for Culture and Tourism from 2019 to 2023.

“He ticks all the boxes in the push by stakeholders to back someone with experience to succeed Onanuga as part of efforts to sustain the tempo of development. His supporters are also doing great groundwork in leveraging the opportunity that fate has provided to push his ambition,” an insider disclosed.

He is a chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
