impeached by the Edo State House of Assembly on Monday, April 8, 2024
Philip Shaibu, the impeached Deputy Governor of Edo state is retaining “ties’ with his former principal, Governor Godwin Obaseki.
He has refused to do away with the photograph with Obaseki as the face of his most active social media handle (Facebook).
Checks revealed Shaibu uploaded the photograph on September 11, 2021 – a year after he helped the Governor win another term in an all-out-political fight against his mentor, former governor Adams Oshiomhole remains in place at press time (Friday, May 17, 2024 – 9.08 am).

Shaibu and Obaseki’s quarrel blew into the open last year and, spiraled to the Governor relocating the office of his deputy outside the Government House in September 2023.
Shaibu after a prolonged quarrel, that soured his relationship with Obaseki beyond borders, was impeached by the Edo State House of Assembly on Monday, April 8, 2024.
The former Deputy Governor accused Obaseki of masterminding his removal from office over his ambition to become the next Governor.
Since he was forced out of office, Shaibu who helped Obaseki to secure re-election in 2024 has re-united with those he fell out with while supporting the Governor.
Checks, however, revealed that although he has transformed into one of the champions of opposition to Obaseki within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) – Shaibu retains the picture with Obaseki as the face of his most active social media page.
