Governor of Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele says he does not know the Labour Party gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State , Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour and has never met him as well.

“The Governor does not know and has never met or even spoken with Mr Gbadebo Rhodes Vivour either in person or through proxy.” a statement by Isa Abdulmumin, the Acting Director, of Corporate Communications of the CBN stated in a statement that describes claims Emefiele has made “certain amount of money available’ to the gubernatorial candidate ahead of the March 18, 2023 election as “completely false”.

The Labour Party (LP) gubernatorial candidate is seriously challenging the re-election ambition of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for the administration of Lagos state, the political stronghold of President-Elect, Bola Tinubu.

A report by a national newspaper alleged that Emefiele made the move in a “fresh plot against President-Elect”.

The statement by the Acting Director of Corporate Communications of the CBN labeled the report as “fake news”.

“We wish to reiterate that the CBN Governor does not take part in Politics and therefore urge anyone with contrary information to prove the Governor wrong should provide such facts.” the statement by signed by Isa Abdulmumin with the header “Emefiele Debunks Fake News Titled – Re-Emefiele Launches Fresh Plot Against President-Elect Tinubu” challenged.

And urged that  ” …the Governor and team at the CBN  should be allowed to focus on their assigned  job with a view to achieving statutory mandates of the Bank.”

Emefiele was one of those listed in a fiery challenge for the Presidential ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC) before Tinubu won it and eventually emerged as President-Elect in the February 25, 2023 election.

Though his name was heavily touted as a Presidential aspirant in the hunt for the APC ticket, the Central Bank Governor never admitted such an ambition – nor denied it.
