“I Am A Street Boy, Obaseki Will Support Me” – Shaibu Declares In Guber Bid
claims that the people of Edo state are behind him
The Deputy Governor of Edo State has further talked up his chances of succeeding Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Shaibu insists that he remains the candidate to beat and says he has the needed support, across all senatorial districts, to become the next Governor of Edo state.
He labeled himself a street boy based on his strong connection with the grassroots.
‘I am a grassroots person. I am a street boy because I am always with them” Shaibu asserted in a virtual appearance on Journalists Hangout, the popular programme on the television station, TVC today – November 27, 2023.
The Deputy Governor who claims that the people of Edo state are behind him, also declared that Governor Obaseki will eventually support his ambition.
“I am completely detribalised. My office reflects all of Edo state. It is only in my office that you will see that. I am bringing competence. I don’t play ethnic politics, I don’t play religion, I play competence. I am a homeboy. I am the candidate to beat. I am confident that the Governor will support me” Shaibu insisted.
Questioned about his chances despite the fact that Governor Obaseki is backing another aspirant, the Deputy Governor reiterated that he remains the candidate to beat.
“I am the only person in the news, I am the one they blocking not to contest, for close to five months no allocation to my office. I understand the intimidation and harassment, all these things point to the fact that I am the candidate to beat.
And I refuse to be distracted. I am confident the Governor will support me.” Shaibu stated with great gusto.
The Deputy Governor, who shied away from revealing his game plan but shared that he has made his moves and secured needed support across board added, “I will beat the so-called candidate”.
The declarations by Shaibu come less than twenty-four hours after he was denied- at the eleventh hour – the use of the venue he booked to declare his gubernatorial based on alleged threats from senior government officials close to Governor Obaseki.
