In 2003, the then Governor of Ogun state Aremo Olusegun Osoba relied on the powerful transport union leader Alhaji Akeem Bodunrin (Iyeru) to provide street support in the bid to secure re-election.

Osoba was up against Gbenga Daniel who had created huge awareness with a lot of massive grass root mobilization.

Iyeru who is said to famously sport the tattoo of Yemoja – the water goddess on his body, however, disappointed Osoba on election day.

‘’He claimed he was ill and hospitalized and was nowhere to be found to mobilize street support for Osoba’’ societynow.ng learned.

‘’That was one of the major factors that gave Daniel, who went on to serve a two-term, gallant victory over Osoba’’ a source stated.

But 16years later Iyeru made up for the 2003 disappointment he gave Osoba.

‘’Iyeru and his boys based on the influence of Osoba toiled for the emergence of Dapo Abiodun as the Governor of Ogun state’’ sources claim.

Societynow.ng learned that sidelined during the eight years reign of Ibikunle Amosun, the immediate past governor of Ogun state, Iyeru and his followers supported the gubernatorial ambition of Dapo Abiodun based ‘’arrangement’’ brokered by Osoba.

Insiders disclosed that the move paid off with Abiodun’s emergence as the incumbent Governor of Ogun state.

And Iyeru is enjoying a payback with his announcement as the new Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) in Ogun state.

Iyeru takes charge in an acting capacity until the union’s upcoming election.

The Transport Union Committee put in place by governor Amosun – headed by Barrister Olufemi Adeniyi – announced Iyeru as the state chairman of the NURTW late last week.

Societynow.ng learned that Iyeru’s emergence as the state chairman of NURTW is not without its drama.

Insiders disclosed that while the governor new Governor tarry on allowing his loyalist to take over the leadership of the Union from supporters of former governor Amosun, certain stakeholders in the NURTW moved to cash in on the situation.

‘’They hit the town with posters announcing ambition and started backing their supporters to seize areas they have influence from Amosun’s men.

‘’Iyeru moved to rebuff the by deploying his own boys to meet might with might, that is the cause of the skirmishes in garages in Abeokuta such as Panseke and Kuto and similar thing in Sango’’ societynow.ng gathered.

The Government announced Iyeru as the new man in charge on the heels of these skirmishes societynow.ng confirmed.

‘’And now there is relative peace in the new because it is an open secret that Iyeru worked for the emergence of the new government and enjoys its backing in his new status’’ an insider stated.
