Checks revealed that many more young Nigerians are falling in love with Zenith Bank, the market leader delivering significant growth across key performance indicators.
The bank, which recently reinforced its market leader status with a 67% rise in profit to N1.3 trillion in December 2024 from N796 billion, has recorded over 2 million app downloads of its mobile banking platform within 12 months, has trended multiple times during online youth finance conversations and events, boasts of a 35% year-on-year increase in digital account signups among customers aged 18–30, and multiplied youth engagement across platforms like X (Twitter) and TikTok, with customer sentiment on social media also reflecting greater emotional connection, with hashtags like #MyZenithMyWay trending among NYSC members and university students.
And this development is attributed to the youthful vibes and strategic focus Group Managing Director Dame Adaora Umeoji has brought to bear. Dame Umeoji, who was Deputy Managing Director for 8 years, took over as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and Group Managing Director (GMD) in June 2024.
Her intentional focus on digital transformation and inclusion, with a clear understanding of the youth market, has resulted in initiatives that have boosted the interest of young people, insiders say.
“She understands that Nigerian youth aren’t just digital natives but are rather aspirational, entrepreneurial and brand-aware, and that is why her leadership has prioritised 24/7 digital convenience, brand authenticity, financial education via mobile platforms and low-entry banking products,” according to added information.
The low-entry banking products also speak to the prevailing economic situation, which makes many young people and businesses seek a partner in their financial journey amid high unemployment and limited access to credit.

Findings reveal some of the youth-interest-sparking products introduced or spotlighted by the bank since Dame Umeoji took over include Z-Money Starter Accounts — zero opening balance accounts for students and NYSC members, Z-Save & Flexi Plans — savings accounts that reward consistency with cashbacks or event tickets, Digital Student Loan Pilot Scheme — partnerships with select institutions to pilot tuition support with deferred payment terms, and Zenith BizHub — a platform offering micro-entrepreneurs (especially on Instagram and WhatsApp) tools for invoicing, savings, and micro-credit.
“These innovations speak directly to the hustle-driven, convenience-seeking lifestyle of Nigerian youth,” experts insist.
Also described as a major tell that soared the interest of Nigeria’s under-35 demographic, which makes up over 70% of the population, is Zenith Bank’s fast-tracked major upgrades across its digital platforms when the CEO came on board. In the first week of October 2024, the financial institution ranked Nigeria’s number one by Tier-1 capital for over fifteen years concluded a comprehensive infrastructure upgrade that fully revamped Zenith Mobile App, featuring biometric login, instant card requests, virtual cards, and real-time chat support.
Young people have found this development, backed by partnerships with fintech APIs to power QR-code payments and easier integration with gig economy platforms (like ride-hailing and food delivery apps), and a rollout of Zenith’s USSD Lite for youth and rural communities, reducing data dependence, “very alluring and hard to resist,” according to those in the know.

Industry watchers say that the added value of “more data transparency and ease-of-use, enabling smarter financial decisions for digital-first customers” has helped to further entrench Zenith Bank as a young people’s preference.
Cementing the ties between Zenith Bank and young people are the identified youth-centric campaigns and very conscious brand positioning.
Since Dame Umeoji took the reins as GMD, Zenith Bank’s brand tone became more conversational and pop-culture-aware. And strong pointers to this shift are a visual rebrand of Zenith’s online assets to adopt a more sleek, Gen Z-appealing interface — cleaner fonts, brighter palettes, and relatable captions, sponsorship of The Future Awards Africa — tying Zenith’s brand to youth achievement, and collaborations with influencers like Aproko Doctor, Tomike Adeoye, and Josh2Funny to demystify banking and investing through storytelling.
Not left out, of course, is the popular #ZenithVibes — a digital campaign promoting youth financial literacy through influencer reels and TikTok challenges.

According to added disclosures, the Dame Umeoji-led management team is also playing strongly in community engagement and youth empowerment that positions Zenith Bank as an ally in personal development, and this is also proving to be a strong edge. Initiatives such as Zenith Bank Youth Empowerment Series (Z-YES) — an annual live and virtual conference series featuring speakers on entrepreneurship, fintech, and mental health, Campus Ambassador Program — a network of university students acting as micro-influencers and liaisons between Zenith Bank and the student community, and Hackathons and Tech Bootcamps in Lagos, Abuja, and Port Harcourt, offering cash prizes and seed grants for young developers, have aided in no small measures in positively repositioning the bank in the minds of young people.
“These gestures showed young people that the bank was investing in their growth — not just their deposits,” an industry watcher pointed out.
And insiders say despite these fantastic results posted so far, the CEO is far from done.
Sources say she is already championing work on other initiatives that would exponentially increase the gains of her stewardship. “Dame Umeoji’s next step is deepening fintech partnerships and launching the Zenith Youth Wallet, a gamified, AI-enhanced savings and budgeting app designed exclusively for Gen Z. She’s also prioritizing rural tech outreach and exploring AI chatbot banking in Nigerian languages. You can imagine the pedestal that these initiatives will put Zenith Bank on with young people and other stakeholders,” insiders say.
