Those who should know disclose that one of those former Governor Rauf Aregbesola helped to prominence in the political circle of Osun state is Ajibola Basiru.

Aregbesola who is the immediate past Minister for Interior was the Governor of Osun state for a two-term of 8years from November 27, 2010, to November 27, 2018

Based on the strong rapport they enjoyed, Basiru served as the Commissioner of Regional Integration and Special Duties in Aregbesola’s first term and as Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice in the second term.

Basiru

Basiru, currently the National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has transformed into the face of the party in Osun state with Aregbesola’s influence vastly diminished.

Information at hand revealed that at the hand of the change in statuses is conflict in political directions that imposed different paths on them.

Gboyega Oyetola, another chieftain of the APC, succeded Aregbesola as the Governor of Osun state. But they do not see eye to eye right from the word even though the latter served as the Chief of Staff to the former.

Added information revealed that Basiru’s refusal to side with Aregbesola forced the parting of ways between them.

Aregbesola

Basiru who became a Senator after he served in the government of Aregbesola – from 2019 to 2023 – not only refused to work against Oyetola but openly sided with him in a strong show of solidarity.

Though Oyetola lost his second term bid in a development largely attributed to the deep-seethed quarrel with Aregbesola, his camp has since taken over control of the APC with Basiru emerging as the face of the party in Osun state – and the National Secretary.

As the face of the APC in Osun state, Basiru has transformed the tormentor-in-chief of Governor Ademola Adeleke and his People’s Democratic Government by unrelentingly tasking them on issues of governance and electoral promises. And canvassing a united front within the APC in the bid to win back the state in the next elections.
